Funny Mom books by Stephanie Wilder-Taylor

I do read the typical parenting books on sleep training and discipline, although I find all parents should take advice with a grain of salt. Many of these books are written by men (not even fathers), many are outdated, and some are too new-age-y for me. Sometimes I just want to hear a mom admit "My kid is driving me crazy," or "I wish I had my freedom back." Then I found author Stephanie Wilder-Taylor and her two funny, slightly sarcastic, but honest takes on child-rearing.

Sippy Cups Are Not for Chardonnay: And Other Things I Had to Learn as a New Mom

The Curiosity Shoppe at Target

Right. You guys all probably think that I'm doing advertising for Target or something, but the truth is...I've just been spending a lot of time there lately. The Curiosity Shoppe Collection opened yesterday at select Target locations (I learned this the hard way--thanks for nothing, City Target!).

I've never actually been to the actual Curiosity Shoppe -- or San Francisco for that matter (I know, I know) -- but I've ordered countless things from them and I was so happy to have a bit of their whimsy here in Seattle. The collection was a bit picked over when we finally got there, but I picked up some lovely goods to enjoy.

A sweet bag ($5) cause I keep forgetting mine with the new law.

The piece that everyone has been wanting: the America Cheese Board, $25.

Plus, a graphic tea plate, $3 -- I'm going to use them as modern Christmas trees. Christmas cookiiiiies!

Did you guys get a chance to see the collection? What did you think? Was everything gone in your area when you got there?

Crazy Computer Robots

Hey gang! Due to the silly amount of SPAM comments we have been getting on Neatloaf, we are going to shut off the anonymous comment option. We obviously want to hear from every single person that reads this, regardless of their gmail status (except for the robots of course). xo

Trip to Target for Fall Friday Finds!

I was in Target today on a mad hunt for the brand new Andy Warhol Limited Edition Soup Cans when I noticed a delightful pattern going on in their Fall Collection: a beautiful palette of robin's egg blue, yellow and a rich rose. Of course, in true Target-shopper fashion, I ended up with about thirty more items in my basket than I originally intended. I could probably go in for a pack of gum and come out with a sofa bed. Regardless, check out these snazzy picks in a perfectly tailored, bright Fall color palette:

1. A "mod" place to take a seat: the Union Teal Dot Futon, for $199, Target.

2. Candy corns--oh sweet October, you're just around the corner. Brach's candy corns $2.95 for an 11 oz bag.

3. More fashion to drool over: the Mossimo Supply Co. Juniors Colored Skinny Denim in Chili -- don't tell anyone I'm shopping in the junior's department! (Okay, do). $22.99, Target.

4. Make mini fall pies! Set of four large Ramekins, $13.49, Target.

5. Drink some cider and take a nap on this classy pillow: the Room Essentials® Patterned Decorative Pillow in Yellow, available in Target stores.

6. What I initially came in for! Don't miss these great commemorative Andy Warhol Soup Cans in celebration of the 50th anniversary of his famed work, “32 Campbell’s Soup Cans.” $0.79 each, available in Target stores.

Thursday's Outfit Under $100

Right, guys. It's that time again. Ever look at your bank account and immediately start strictly making your own coffee and lunch, and wondering if driving to the grocery store is really worth the gas? I managed it again today: an outfit under $100. Take a look. Plus, I'd love more cheap-o recommendations!

On top: Mossimo Supply Co. Juniors Short Sleeve Pocket Vee Tee from Target, $8 (don't be scared of the junior's department!)

On bottom: Mossimo Supply Co. Juniors Colored Skinny Denim in Teal Green from Target, $22.99

On my feet: My very favorite Bass Women's Jolene Oxfords from, $44.95

Accessorize! A vintage fetish necklace from New Mexico, gifted to me by my dad when I was a kid. There are treasures in your jewelry box already! You can find these at street markets and online from $20 - many, many hundreds of dollars.

Total cost: $75.94 Yay! Now, I'll take that 20 bucks to the movies tomorrow.
