My 2012 resolution was a conglomeration of a few things I desperately needed: find balance, find strength, and use both to forgive myself of things I cannot do. Quite the undertaking! Yet I am constantly finding reminders of the reasons it is so important, for women especially, to learn the power of their own voice. I thought I'd share...
Reminder #1 -- A friend wrote about her intentions to "begin what needs beginning and end what needs ending." What a wonderful concept -- to allow yourself to decide the life cycle of your daily doings, which is especially relevant for someone like me, who constantly struggles to be concrete.
Reminder #2 -- My aunt and I have a silly (maybe not-so-silly!) idea of writing a book about the joy of hospitality and the art of visiting with company. I find myself imagining chapters about hosting, entertaining, and making cups of tea over chit chat. I'm not sure why it surprises me to find a passion in something so simple. This is a reminder that who I want to be is who I am already.
Reminder #3 -- The most recent reminder was
this post on
DesignSponge about women saying "No" for the prosperity of her business and personal well-being. Finding the strength to say "No" so that there can be a better work-life balance is not something I am thinking about alone. Grace's words of wisdom are not a girl-power pep talk, rather a thoughtful list of considerations when/if you take on a new project.
Good stuff, huh?
